Part 2 TODAY'S TUBE AND LINK TO WORKSHEETS (Click to Open/Close)
Welcome to Week 2 Day 4 Part 2!
It's time for the last tube!
Our last tube is the yellow top tube. It contains the anticoagulant ACD (acid citrate dextrose). The yellow top tube is used to test for tissue compatibility when considering transplant surgery. It also used to be used to determine paternity (the father of a baby), but now DNA testing is used, because it is more accurate. Remember, with the Whole Blood tubes, the specimens are not spun down in the centrifuge, so the blood remains "whole" (intact) as it is in the body. Yellow tubes go to the BB (blood bank), same as the 7ml lavenders that are used for blood typing. (Tissue typing and blood typing are both performed using immune responses in immunohematology (the other word for Blood Bank!), where they study immunity and blood (immun-o-hemat-o-logy). You can complete the tube chart for the Yellow Top Tube with just 10 letters! Learn more at the worksheets folder (link below!)!
